Moments from the Trip
Getting to Brooklyn
Accommodations: Moxy Williamsburg
The journey began with landing in the renovated, award-winning LaGuardia Airport. Thought it’s been several years since I’ve visited to New York, the upgrades were evident!
Not only does the space boast a ton of new and modern amenities, shops and dining options, but it also offers lots of natural light, easy navigation. It was also more affordable flying in here than JFK and offered substantially smaller crowds and less congestion.

The Moxy Williamsburg, a Marriott hotel, is trendy and showcases moxie in its design and location, reflecting the eclectic spirit of the neighborhood in which it’s situated.
It’s not uncommon for New York hotel rooms to be small. But Moxy excels in blending modern luxury with an efficient, industrial style, that leverages multifunctional furnishings to maximize space. Across the board, the hotel exudes a lively community and social vibe, accentuated by bold colors and a light-filled, open floor plan.
Amenities include a rooftop bar with Manhattan skyline views and Bar Bedford, a cozy lobby cafe offering delicious small bites. Restaurant Mesiba, connected to the hotel’s lobby, provides exceptional ambiance and quality food; the holiday menu, especially the lamb chops and donuts, was impressive.
Overall, Moxy Williamsburg presents a chic urban atmosphere, close to museums and restaurants, sure to delight visitors.
Hot Spots Worth Visiting
Food:
- Mesiba – Again, located within the Moxy Williamsburg, convenience alone might make this an ideal selection, though the holiday menu will likely exceed expectations.
- Pomp and Circumstance (P&C) – In addition to providing an intimate space and warm atmosphere, P&C’s highlights include delicious house-made pita, made fresh in a stone oven, natural wine (including hot wine!) and excellent service.
- 12 Chairs Cafe – Both chic and cozy, this place offers impeccable food, drinks and service. My party was operating on a tight timetable, and our host made every effort to rush the order despite being completely packed on New Year’s Day. The restaurant’s website describes an ability to “transport the restaurant clientele to Tel Aviv without leaving New York,” using locally sourced and fresh ingredients, evident in every bite!
- Sunday in Brooklyn – Previously named “Best Brunch in New York,” I had the opportunity to experience why this bustling New American has been on several guides and lists ranking the best hot chocolate in Brooklyn for its non-dairy colorful confection.
- City Point BKLYN – Taste global flavors and delicacies in one central place. Shopping malls may not be some folk’s first choice for dining, but this market is exemplary, delicious proof of NYC’s proper designation as a melting pot. Jamaican, Italian, sushi, libations like wine, brews and specialty margaritas, ice cream and more are available. Per the recommendation of a City Point employee and the internet, Fat Fowl’s oxtail grilled cheese is a top choice.
Shopping:
- Da Spot NYC – Stumbling upon this gem in City Point BKLYN was such a pleasant surprise. The Black-woman-owned boutique sells the artwork, styles and creative wares of local BIPOC individuals and businesses. I took home two designed and upcycled pieces but further enjoyed learning about how Da Spot supports the community, including workshops, events, and more.
- McNally Jackson Bookstore – Also located in City Point BKLYN, this library was quite charming (and offered subtle ‘Dash & Lily’ vibes for those who are fans).
